What do you want in your neighborhood and community? Chances are, others want the same thing. As individuals we won’t get nearly as much accomplished as when we work together. The IEC creates task groups to actively respond to our community’s interests and needs, advocate on behalf of all our neighbors, and share our multicultural values and traditions with those around us. We bring multiple voices into a shared voice. We know and believe that a united voice will achieve more for the good of the people than lots of individual voices. Everything we do is decided and worked out through our partnerships and committees. People are able to be part of what interests them and their family.

Here’s how it works.

A neighbor joins the Council as a member. Ideas are shared and discussed in a community meeting or brought before the Board of Directors. The Board considers if the idea fits with the vision and mission of the Independence Ethnic Council and is something the Council should be involved with. If it’s a fit, a decision is made as to which committee should take on this new idea. The committee (made up of Council members and Board members) then works on fulfilling our shared vision and mission. Reports are made to the Board of Directors for any decision making or support. The Board meets monthly, and the general membership meets quarterly.
